Assistant Livestock Manager

Compensation: 50 – 70k salary

Benefits: Health, dental and vision, housing possibly available

Schedule: 5 days per week on a rotating basis, 45 – 55 hours per week

Reports to: Livestock Manager

Carversville Farm Foundation (CFF) is a non-profit farm that combines ecological regeneration and organic agricultural production to serve our environment as well as our community. We are a diversified farm with intensive cover cropping, grazing, hay, vegetable, poultry, beef and mushroom production.  We currently distribute our farm products to soup kitchens and food pantries in the greater Philadelphia area to help improve access to wholesome, locally grown foods. About the position:

The assistant livestock manager will join a dedicated team of farmers to take care of all of our pasture based livestock needs. We raise beef cattle, laying hens, turkeys, broiler chickens and have several goats for hedge row maintenance. There will be daily chores of collecting eggs, moving fences according to our rotational grazing plan, feeding and watering all species while remaining observant to the animals’ needs. We are looking to expand our farm to include a cow-calf operation in the future. We are looking for skilled and dedicated livestock farmers that care for the animals and health of the land. We are striving to create the most healthful food we can donate to those in need.


We are looking for someone with beef cattle experience:

  • 5 years livestock experience
  • Cattle and poultry experience
  • Ability to manage staff and delegate responsibility
  • Excellent record keeping skills
  • Proficient in poultry processing
  • Rotational grazing management experience
  • Strong employee management skills



Working with our team of apprentices, staff and the livestock manager to execute daily tasks including:

  • Daily chores
  • Collecting and washing eggs
  • Moving fencing and infrastructure for beef, poultry and goats
  • Support record keeping
  • Repair, maintenance and cleaning of animal infrastructure
  • Hatching and brooding young poultry stock
  • Contribute to a safe and orderly working environment
  • Interact with public and press
  • Creating plans, projections, budgeting and ordering supplies
  • Ability to oversee all aspects of the livestock operation including inventory management and distribution
  • Work with apprentices (training, overseeing, inspiring)
