About the Program:
Carversville Farm Foundation (CFF) is a non-profit farm that combines ecological regeneration and agricultural production to serve our environment as well as our community. We currently distribute our farm products to soup kitchens and food pantries in the greater Philadelphia area to help improve access to wholesome, locally grown foods. CFF also sells some of its products. We are a diversified farm with intensive cover cropping, grazing, hay, vegetable, poultry and mushroom production. We also raise turkeys, laying hens and beef cattle. Specific livestock husbandry topic areas will include soil health, pasture management and grazing, food safety, animal nutrition, tracking production data and animal harvest logistics. We currently farm over 380 acres organically.
Our apprenticeship program is designed as an introduction to organic farming. Learning the basic skills of farming will be covered from start to finish. Apprentices will work 45 – 50 hours/week with our full-time farmers on every aspect of production, and will also have the opportunity to attend workshops off the farm to support their professional development in organic agriculture. We currently have positions available for the Livestock Apprenticeship.
